ISLAMABAD—Former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has harshly criticized a misleading banner headline regarding the sedition case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Dr. Shahbaz Gill.
In its main headline, the Urdu daily maintained that Gill had admitted the charges against him, saying his statement was in line with the party policy.
However, on Thursday, the court rejected the prosecution's request for further remand of the PTI leader and sent him to jail on judicial remand.
Gill was arrested Tuesday afternoon at Bani Gala Chowk in Islamabad after a video clip of his controversial remarks, aired on ARY News, went viral. He has been booked on charges of sedition and inciting the public against the state institutions.
In his tweet in Urdu, Fawad said that Gill is still standing with the party despite torture in custody and has not committed any crime. He asked the news editor Jang to die of shame. "Jang kay news editor ko chulo bhar pani mein doob marna chaahi."
There is no love lost between PTI and the Jang Group. During the PTI government, Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman, the owner of the Jang Group, was put behind bars for several months in an alleged graft case.
